The situation
The Weisheimers were created to bring our team together once a month to review our work. We did a lot of digital work already, but every month we met in the hallways of GSW and pinned up printouts of websites and iPad apps and mobile experiences, and had a design review around sheets of paper on a wall. It didn’t make sense. These experiences were never meant to be printed or pinned to a wall.
What we set out to do
Take one of our monthly traditions and go completely digital without losing the review.
The decision that mattered
My proposal was to organize the work the same way we organized case studies on our website.
How it went
The idea had three challenges. The team was used to doing it the old way, and tradition is tough to overcome, so the new way had to be simple. The benefit to the team wasn’t big enough on its own. And we didn’t want to lose the design review; it was nice to meet and talk about the work.
The first two were solved by a simple way to upload work, structured so it was useful for more than the monthly review. The third was solved with a custom web app for live voting.
What came out of it
An archive of the team’s work, organized like case studies, that doubled as a source for new-business pitches and award entries. And at the end of the presentation, the audience could pick favorites on a site and watch a live tally give us a best in show for the month.
What happened after
COVID put the first Weisheimers on hold. When it ran, it went a little differently than planned and needed adjusting, but it was well received and was a break from the typical Zoom meeting.
